The Planetary Health Equity Hothouse presents the film: Outgrow the System by directors Cecilia Paulsson and Anders Nilsson. Screening for the first time in Australia. Outgrow the System explores how we can return to the essence of the term “economy” and design an economic system that genuinely manages our scarce resources. Beyond the narrow mainstream debate and the teachings of business schools, numerous new economic ideas and practices are emerging – wellbeing economy, degrowth, etc. They challenge old assumptions and offer fresh perspectives on how we can reorganise our production and consumption, in order to ensure our survival as a species on this planet.
The directors say, “With this film we want to democratise the conversation around the economy, ecology, and democracy. Economics should be a topic accessible to all, not confined to experts. We wish to empower viewers to engage in discussions about economic models and to foster hope that change is not only possible, but already underway. Let's join in the movement for change!”
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with economist Katherine Trebeck, degrowth scholar Sabrina Chakori, Minister Shane Rattenbury MLA, and film director Cecilia Paulsson. The panel will be moderated by Professor Sharon Friel, director of the Hothouse.
The event tickets are free, and donations to the Impact Campaign - Outgrow the System fundraiser are invited, your donation will support the film makers to show their film to more audiences worldwide (the fundraising is in Swedish Krona, 50Kr = $7).
