About the Summit

The Planetary Health Equity Summit 2027: Exiting the Consumptogenic System

Are you concerned about the state of inequities, climate change and health, but sick of hearing only about the doom and gloom and little of how to change the situation? Then we invite you to attend the Planetary Health Equity Summit – an activity of the ARC Laureate Fellowship in Governance for Planetary Health Equity. Spend three days with us in the Hothouse, immersed in new ideas and new voices discussing ways forward for achieving planetary health equity.

Showcasing the work of the Planetary Health Equity Hothouse and participants from the Hothouse Future Leaders Program (2023-2026 cohorts), you will be inspired by academics, civil society, politicians, bureaucrats, and business leaders. There will be insights from anthropology, business studies, design, Indigenous knowledge, law, planning, political science, and public health. We promise memorable participant engagement, lively conversations, and collective imagining, focused on showing what is possible and how to make it happen when it comes to tackling climate change, health and inequities.

Our aim is for you to leave the Planetary Health Equity Summit energised to make hope practical rather than despair convincing.

Achieving planetary health equity necessarily requires diverse ideas and collective imagining from a range of disciplines, sectors and organisations. This is exactly what we have planned for the Planetary Health Equity Summit. The Summit will platform new voices bringing their expertise from around the world on topics spanning health, climate, inequities, economics, politics, and more. The aim is for participants to leave the Planetary Health Equity Summit energised to make hope practical rather than despair convincing.

Day 1 of the Summit opens by challenging the idea that humans and the planet are “stuffed”— that planetary health inequity is inevitable. Speakers remind us that different imaginaries, values, ways of being and knowledges exist beyond the harmful consumptogenic system, shining a light on what is already possible. Day 1 wraps up with the launch of the Saving the World Planetary Health Equity book, authored by thirty seven Fellows from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts of the Hothouse’s Future Leaders Program.

In Day 2, Rallying Whole of Society, we will be immersed in discussing progressive actions that could be or are taking place in government, international organisations, and across business. We highlight the power of people coming together to make change happen. That evening, join us for the launch of the Saving the World documentary!

The Summit’s third and final day focuses on how change happens. Titled Grounded Hope, the day provides details of how big and small policy paradigm shifts have occurred in the past, insights from different sectors (energy, food, plastics), and perspectives on the role of radical politics.
